July 1st to Septembre 22nd 2019
Until September 22nd at the Rencontres d’Arles :
Journey on the Silk Road in contemporary China.
In 2016, having already completed several projects in China, Dominique Laugé and Alain Jouffray, musicologist, producer and a great connoisseur of the country, imagined a trip on the New Silk Roads. In 2018, with the precious support of the APCAE and Leica, they travel throughout China, from the border of Kazakhstan to the shores of the southern sea. The common thread of what can be regarded as a quest is to translate into images every place where people meet and exchange: physical and symbolic bridges, bus and railway stations, inland and sea ports, airports, administrations and companies. Dominique Laugé has thus had the unique opportunity to photograph a country in full mutation, often unknown to the Western public.
Born in La Rochelle, Dominique Laugé studied literature at the University of Bordeaux. Between 1982 and 1984, he attended the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California, where he also studied the Zone System with Bob Werling and Ansel Adams. From 1985 to 2005, he lived in Geneva, then twenty years in Milan where he was a freelance photographer. Based in Gaillac for the past fifteen years, he has been working on editorial projects around landscape and documentary photography.
During his career as a photographer, he received several awards and published many books; he also had shows in many galleries and institutions. For details, follow the link : http://www.centrephoto-gaillac.com/-About-27-
